Oh Hell No.

We recently had the misfortune to confront this: Moms For Liberty Bucks County Leaders Think Public Schools Are Trying To Bring Pedophilia Into the Classroom.

They ought to be ashamed of themselves. They offer zero evidence, zero allegations even. Just books in the library.

Do they know the meaning of the P word that they throw around so freely? “Sexual feelings directed toward children.” And this is what they say about CB’s loyal, hardworking, exemplary teachers. Again: they should be ashamed of themselves.

Try the shoe on the other foot. How about if someone started a group, called, say, Community Against Insanity, that accused all the parents in our region of abusing animals? Of torturing puppies to death? There is as much evidence for this claim as there is for their claim against teachers. What if we called them puppy murderers at every public event?

Would that help us figure out how to live with one another? Would it help the children or the animals? Would it help us find the true abusers in our community? Would it reflect glory on the accusers? Would it do anything positive at all whatsoever to any degree?

Or would it merely feel great to rain the ugliest possible name all over innocence? To inflict pain and attempt to profit from it?

We notice that this same group has not attacked:

Predation of our children happens where there are children. Even in Sunday schools.

But this does not mean that most priests, boy scout leaders, coaches, or Sunday school teachers are abusers. In fact, they are the ones most likely to report “grooming” (definition: when someone builds a relationship, trust, and emotional connection with a child or young person so they can manipulate, exploit, and abuse them).

We condemn in the strongest terms this foul attempt to smear our teachers. We condemn the lie. We condemn the ill intent. We condemn the harm done to our schools, our teachers, and especially to our children, when an irresponsible group cries wolf to advance their political agenda.

Central Bucks, stand up against this disgusting behavior. Call out a lie when it is told in your presence.

Hold liars responsible for the intentional damage they wreak.

In 1993, Annie Proulx’s novel The Shipping News was published and won the Pulitzer Prize. It tells the story of a newly widowed man who has never known any luck or much love, who moves to Newfoundland with his aunt and two young children. There he finds a home. He writes for the local newspaper and because he’s a good listener and sensitive writer, he is awarded his own column: “The Shipping News.”
